The Delhi University (DU) sent its application for inspection and affiliation to the Bar Council of India (BCI) yesterday with the requisite fee, reported the Indian Express. The BCI had debarred graduates of the University’s law schools from getting their advocate enrolment, accusing the University of being careless about compliance with legal education rules.
The three law schools under the DU – Campus Law Centre, Law Faculty I and Law Faculty II – filed separate applications for inspection and affiliation, containing details on their own infrastructure, faculty strength, faculty members’ qualifications, library facilities and student strength among other things. Now they will be inspected by a five-member team consisting of an academic expert, a retired high court judge, a Delhi Bar Council representative and BCI members and will receive conditional or permanent affiliation.
The inspection committee will likely be constituted within a week aiming to complete the process completed “as soon as possible”, BCI chairman Biri Singh Sinsinwar told the Express. Only yesterday, it was reported that the BCI barred graduates from two colleges in Telangana, which complained about the size of the affiliation fee.
