Up to 47 students, reportedly from a law school in Mumbai, were arrested in a Lonavla house party for allegedly dancing obscenely and being drunk, with police 'discovering' booze and condoms at the costume party.
They were charged under section 294 of the Indian Penal Code, section 110, 112 and 117 of the Bombay Police Act and section (65) (E) of the Bombay Prohibition Act, according to news reports.
Police officers told papers: "Of the 45 students arrested, 20 were women from the same college. Our team found these students indulging in obscene dance. Most of them were under the influence of alcohol.
"It was a masquerade party and the girls were dressed in a one piece dress with masks."
Produced in Vadgaon Maval court on Thursday they were released after paying Rs 10,000 each in surety with proper bail scheduled for April 16.
Lawyer Sanjay Wandre, who is reportedly representing the students, said: "The students did not indulg in any obscene act. As for the dresses they were wearing, modern clothes are commonly worn by youth from Mumbai and there was nothing objectionable about it." [TOI] [DNA]

Please do not attempt at mindless speculation.
The other Mumbai newspapers have reported the College name. I would not like to put any names here since I honestly believe that the College (any college for that matter) has nothing to do with this.
I know they are from this college. My batchmates.
Bombay police, why don't you go and catch some serius stuff like Mumbai mafia or terrorists, so that events like 7/3 or 26/11 shall not be repeated.
NB: Please remove the name of the college reported by some of the commentators above. It is in serious violation of privacy rights of students in that college!
And since it's true, why should we not report on police overreach?
Go file a defamation suit against the newspapers who have printed the name of the college!!!
I think you people should really study law than go to rave parties!! it is in public domain. LI need not censor it, unless you people get an injunction, which I personally,a Bombay High Court lawyer, doubt you will get. Most of the charges, barring probably obscenity, the students are charged for, the case is weak for students.
Say bye bye to anuchit vyavhar,
abki baar, !£$% sarkaar
growing up, i thought 2 piece was a taboo! (unless the one piece mentioned here was because of one of the two pieces being missing), even which should not be a bother (see first para).
wrt condoms, would it have been better that they not have those? The Govt. Should be happy that the youth has taken up to the "mukkadar ka sikandar" campaign!
And to hell with the Prohibition Act!
Sickening this Maha Police has become! Useless Fu#$%rs. Don't they have better things to do?
I am just waiting for some screwed up Meenakshi Lekhi/Asaram Type of people to say that such parties incite men and lead to Rape. Just wait for it. Some idiot will say it!
Also, this has nothing to do with the law school. Each and every lawyer here has been drunk (hopefully) and had fun (hopefully), either with(hopefully) or without condoms, regardless of which law school.
