Breaking: Nalsar VC Veer Singh resigns; Chancellor starts hunt for new VC

Veer Singh: To join Judicial Academy
Veer Singh: To join Judicial Academy

Exclusive: Nalsar Hyderabad chancellor and Andhra Pradesh Chief Justice Madan B Lokur is seeking nominations to find Nalsar’s next vice chancellor (VC), as current VC Veer Singh has resigned the institution to join as a director of the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, according to several sources.

Three independent sources, including one authoritative source within Nalsar and one vice chancellor of another national law school, have confirmed that an email was sent from Veer Singh’s email account to vice chancellors of all national law schools and a number of principals of other law schools on 7 February 2012.

A letter from Lokur was attached to the email, seeking nominations for Nalsar’s next VC, while stating that Veer Singh would resign Nalsar to join Chandigarh’s Judicial Academy. No reason for the resignation was specified.

Three names would be picked from the applicants received by the search committee.

Veer Singh was not reachable for comment by phone or SMS at the time of going to press.

Legally India published a report obtained via RTI last week, which had highlighted structural problems in the management and administration of the university.
