The latest state government nominee to NUJS Kolkata’s academic council and executive council rejected the offer of honorary appointment to the posts after his nomination generated allegations of political favouritism in the legal community at large.
It was suggested that Suvaprasanna, an artist with no legal background, was nominated because of his closeness to West Bengal chief minister Mamta Banerjee.
The nomination was a “show of shameless favouritism”, wrote The Statesman two weeks ago.
The post was left open for nomination after the previous state government nominee former Bombay High Court judge Chittosh Mukherjee’s term on the council expired on August 23.
Suvaprasanna who was not consulted by the state government before his nomination, said:
I am already a member of the Railway Amenities Committee and a member of the heritage committee. I understand these subjects, but I don’t know anything about the legal matters and have always maintained a distance from it. So I can’t not give any advice to the institute either. [Express]

Quoting Jodhpurian:
Totally agree with you. If Kian can file RTIs for NALSAR he should do it here too. A lot of muck will come out.
Thanks ZZZ and Thanks Suresh for your comments. I hope you will agree that National Law School is relevant in every state of our Country. It is not the National Law School which is corrupt , it is the AUTHORITY of the National Law School which imports corruption in Legal Education system.
AN APPEAL TO ALL THE CITIZENS OF OUR COUNTRY ---
Please come forward and raise your voice against all the ILLEGALITIES that happened in NUJS under Prof. M.P. Simgh as VC.
AN APPEAL TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE NEW EXECUTIVE COUNCIL and the NEW ACADEMIC COUNCIL of NUJS and to Prof. Ishwar Bhatt VC of NUJS ---
Please place on the papers in front of the CITIZEN of INDIA.
The National Law School is NLS, Bangalore. So, stop making it generic and draggging it down in the muck. Wanna use a collective noun, call it National Law University. And honestly, with all the muck happening in our country, please start a people's movement for other productive purposes instead of corruption in NUJS.
And stop this canard, I don't think the country needs a national law university in every state. You are the one shouting about the issues with a state government patronage. Don't you realise that this thinking is what leads to the issues that you are today railing against? The state governments have enough law schools to screw up. Why dilute other national law universities with this "if you have one, i need one" attitude of the states? Ah, NLS, at least you dont let the state governments get to you, of course the lot inside will kill it anyways.
