Economic Laws Practice (ELP) associate partner Faraz Sagar has joined Trilegal as a partner in Mumbai today to bolster the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution in the city.
Trilegal Delhi partner Anand Prasad confirmed his joining.
Update: In a press release, senior Trilegal litigation partner Sitesh Mukherjee said: “Faraz brings extensive experience in advising and representing a number of domestic and international clients on corporate criminal liability and white collar crimes in various courts, tribunals and other fora and will strengthen our disputes resolution practice.”
The 27-partner law firm will now have three partners in dispute resolution, with Mukherjee and Shankh Sengupta in Delhi and Sagar in Mumbai. The firm would announce its internal partnership promotions in the “next few days”, according to the release.
Trilegal now has three Partners in its disputes resolution practice with Sitesh Mukherjee and Shankh Sengupta located in its Delhi office and now Faraz Alam Sagar located in Mumbai.
He became associate partner at ELP in May, after having joined the firm in 2012 from Wadia Ghandy & Co.
He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2006, moving to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London for one year in 2008.
Sagar is a graduate of Symbiosis Law School, holds a master of business laws from NLSIU Bangalore and an LLM in Finance from the Institute for Law and Finance of the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.

He also advises and conducts extensive internal forensic investigation and corporate espionage investigation for corporate clients. Prior to joining Trilegal, Faraz was part of the litigation and dispute resolution team and environmental law team of a leading Indian firm.
In the last six months, Trilegal has added three new Partners. Of these, Kunal Chandra and Gautam Singh were selected from within after the last round of Partner selection process held earlier this year, and Ravindra Bandhakavi, an expert in PE and corporate M&A, joined the firm from another leading Indian law firm.

If you have a lot of corporate clients, which is still where Trilegal specialises, then presumably some litigation will automatically come along with that, and you'll need partners to manage those.
Tier II firm Associate Partner is now Partner in Tier I ?? firm !!
I think the issue being brought up there is - one way to look at this would be, rather then Tier II to Tier I, Tier I practice in a Tier II firm to a growing practice in a Tier I firm.
Credit where it's due, the Tax and Lit teams at ELP are Tier I in those areas, and honestly what carries the firm. If this was a move from one ELPs other practices I think the persuasion to view it as described above is far lower, as besides these two areas and maybe Trade the firm is definitely not yet Tier I.
