Trilegal should be a pretty good hunting ground for the bigger firms. High quality talent with portable books - this might just be the first of many moves. Not much to hold them back from moving to better platforms.

That's true -- the non family firms are no diffrent -- avoiding transparency, playing favorites, living of other people's Billings etc. their leadership is a pale imitation of the family or other senior individual led firms

Trilegal is not a top firm as compared to CAM. Please check your facts. Honestly trilegal is no where close to CAM. It is a pretentious and toxic place created by a gang of boys.

You are correct in part -- CAM had much deeper roots, but will collapse if the big C retires or leaves -- the bunch of boys will survive any of its senior partners leaving, since there are many other partners to take vacated slots in management. Internal competition may look toxic to some who are used to living of crumbs thrown by the big rainmakers in other top firms.

The moves at such levels are not triggered due to title aspiration. Obviously getting a management role in some form or other is a good to have but per se such moves are triggered because places like trilegal are unable to provide the kind of platform someone like Ravi will need to go to the next level. In all honesty, trilegal is still a smaller firm compared to CAM and known more in a restricted foreign law firm circles . The reach that one can get in a well known large firm like CAm is much more. So to that extent I would assume it is a professional move by Ravi. Having said that it is very well known fact that Trilegal has its share of issues now. Founders (few who are left) are looking to retire and there is a power tussle going on between one partner in Mumbai and some other partners across various offices . This tussle will eventually tear apart the firm. [...] This so reminds me of Luthra.Let's wait and watch. There is more to come.

I can't comment on what you or trilegal think qualifies as leadership material, but the fact that he commands the respect and loyalty of his team (not to mention the clients) who are following him to CAM speaks volumes of his character and ability.
The fact is trilegal lost an asset, time to introspect and make changes before they turn into a luthra.

Actually it is the trilegal partnership which behaves like pack of rowdy boys including women partners who have been trained to behave like one (otherwise they would not have made partners). There is a pretense that it is a democracy and different from family run firms but the fact is that partnership in trilegal is [...] and the alpha [...] is the leader and the successor alpha [...] are the next generation leaders. Therefore whoever doesn't display alpha [...] qualities ends up leaving.

Speak to any Trilegal woman and you will know about the prevailing sexist behavior and top leadership promoting it (by having blinders and doing nothing about the situation).
