Shashank Garg rejoins Advani after 18 months at Suri & Co

Delhi Suri & Co partner Shashank Garg has rejoined Advani & Co, which he had left around 18 months ago to explore growth opportunities outside Advani, where he was a partner.

According to a press release from Advani, he has joined as partner in-charge of the Mumbai-headquartered firm’s Delhi office: “Garg specialises in dispute resolution and hopes to add to the litigation and arbitration practice in Delhi and with a view to expand the same to the entire northern region.”

He is a certified civil and commercial mediator and has been recently appointed reporter of India Jurisdiction by the IBA Arbitration sub-committee, according to the firm’s statement.

We have reached out to Suri & Co for comment.

The firm has also hired the former general counsel (GC) of the Escorts Group, S Ramaswamy, as a senior consultant to mentor the corporate team, according to Advani’s press release.

Ramaswamy runs an online strategy and consulting portal, specialising in M&A and private equity and will help Advani pitch for such work.

What I have heard is that Advani is in a bad shape. Lot of associates have left. They are grappling with staff shortage. Plus not much of a corporate firm anyway.

Advani will require a major overhaul. That means getting some new blood and brain. Hiroo Advani needs to give up control of the firm for it to flourish.
