S&R promotes Lynn Pereira (GLC), Vivek Kumar (Nalsar) to counsel

S&R Associates promoted associates Lynn Pereira in Delhi and Vivek Kumar in Mumbai to counsel, according to a press release from the firm.

GLC Mumbai 1996 graduate Pereira is in the firm’s corporate and commercial disputes practice since he joined in 2013. From 1998 to 2010 he was at the chambers of senior advocate Iqbal Chagla, appearing before the Supreme Court, various high court and the securities and telecom tribunals.

Nalsar Hyderabad 2005 graduate Kumar is the firm’s corporate practice since joining in 2011, before which he had stints at a Mumbai law firm and in house at Wipro.

Why can't people be made partners, and this counsel, consultant, exec director being fancy designations given to lawyers, unless of course they are not lawyers and cannot be admitted to the partnership !

can someone define 'Counsel' designation in a law firm? And their nature of work?

Disappointed with S&R Management for these reasons:
A. Sending Rajat to Mumbai;
B. Not chasing mandates with a certain bullish zeal;
C. Losing fine talent year after year; and, most importantly
D. Doing an 'Amarchand', by making ''Counsels' - like, seriously!!!!
I hope that the next line are promoted properly.. For nothing else, it will demonstrate what opinion they hold of lawyers that are trained at their own offices from the beginning...
