US-headquartered international firm Perkins Coie’s India practice chair I Bobby Majumder has joined Reed Smith last month to co-lead its India practice (and he also opened its newly started Dallas office as co-managing partner, in what is part of an eight-partner, 16-lawyer raid on three Dallas offices).

Majumder is now co-lead of Reed Smith’s India business team alongside London-based arbitration and litigation partner Gautam Bhattacharyya, who has been with the firm since 2000, including some time as managing partner of the firm’s Singapore office.

A Reed Smith spokesperson said that with Majumder’s joining, its India practice had “approximately 26 partners and 25 other qualified lawyers”.

Majumder had been at Perkins Coie in Dallas since 2013, after eight years at K&L Gates, and seven years at Dallas firm Gardere Wynne Sewell.

He specialises in corporate and securities transactions.

In a press release, Majumder commented: “What attracted me to Reed Smith can be summed up in four simple words: local roots, global reach.

“Inasmuch as I was impressed by Reed Smith’s global platform and potential for me to serve our clients in and beyond Dallas and Texas, I was equally impressed with the firm’s insistence that the office is launched by lawyers who are from Texas, have roots in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and have longstanding ties in the community. For Dallas- and Texas-based clients, that local connection is highly valued.”

The partners poached by Reed Smith also includes:

Ryan J. Preston and Lynwood E (Lyn) Reinhardt, all from Perkins Coie. The Global Commercial Disputes practice has added Mark L Johansen from Perkins Coie and Brian C Mitchell from Bracewell. Keith M Aurzada and Michael P Cooley of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner have joined the firm’s Financial Industry Group. Also arriving is Alfred G (Al) Kyle, who has joined the firm’s Real Estate practice from Bracewell.
