NLU Jodhpur’s Day Zero may double last year’s record with massive PPO haul for 2016 batch [UPDATE: 31 jobs]

NLU Jodhpur bagged approximately 31 jobs for its fourth year class in Day Zero yesterday, including 13 pre-placement offers (PPOs), for 88 students.

Jodhpur’s bump in Day Zero performance is more than double last year’s and second only to NLSIU Bangalore this year, from among early Day Zero movers NLIU Bhopal, GNLU Gandhinagar, NLU Delhi and NLSIU Bangalore.

40 total offers, including 13 PPOs, have been made so far to the 2016 batch, according to an unnamed source.

NLUJ’s recruitment coordination committee declined to confirm the exact figure at the time of going to press, but a committee source confirmed they were approximately in the right ballpark. NLU J’s recruitment committee is set to send a full breakdown out soon.

Amarchand Mangaldas, Luthra & Luthra and Trilegal have been consistent NLUJ recruiters in previous years.

Update: NLU Jodhpur Dr Manoj Kumar Singh has confirmed final figures:

These are the official figures for NLU Jodhpur’s Day Zero, conducted on 9th April. We had a total of 40 offers (including PPO offers), and 31 jobs (including PPO jobs). This is the firm wise breakdown. AMSS, Mumbai - 6. AMSS, Delhi - 3 Luthra - 10 Trilegal - 7 Khaitan – 5

All the figures are inclusive of the PPOs.

Yes, it's for scoop only (and if you read the story, it's somewhat verified with a clear proviso that these figures are approximate... Story will be updated once we get full figures :)

Well, in all honesty, there could be worse role models than Times Now in many areas... They often get a lot of scoops, they are the most-watched, they are hugely profitable, and they're actually also fun to watch (and no one watches TV news to learn anything anyway, I assume).

But on this specific story, there's something different going on. If there's some big news event, such as a plane crash, journalists will usually file initial stories that XYZ happened, details still unclear and emerging, more to follow.

Other than the terrible and insensitive analogy, that's what's happening here. And why not - figures are in the right ballpark and will be updated once we have full figures from RCC.

Harm done? None that I can see.
Sarkari Lawyer 10 Apr 2015, 12:43

No harm to anyone for sure, but harm to repo of Legally India might be if you're having any longer future goals.
Its just that you should wait for the all the updates and clarifications and publish accordingly.
I am regular reader, so jus suggesting with good intentions. I m not trying to make any "terrible and insensitive analogy".

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Then again, our competition is rather more aggressive nowadays than they used to be and others are complaining that we're not scooping enough news, so here goes.

Main news hook here is that NLU J has doubled its tally over last year, which is pretty cool and worth a story in itself. Just because we don't have a breakdown yet (and in any case that's a self-imposed rule that we only report results with breakdowns, which no other media used to follow before), doesn't mean this is not a valid story.

It's just a slightly weaker one that a full break-down based on RCC figures. :)

If the college does not confirm or release a statement is that Kian or LI's fault? It is the fault of the college. Release the statement and confirm the real numbers!! Kian will surely report what is in his knowledge. Stop harassing and bothering him over slight deviations from the actual news which is not confirmed. he does his best to report whatever he has heard and what is happening. You are lucky your college is even getting coverage. I do not think it will kill anyone if Kian misses placement figures by 2-3 or misses something else. He is reporting legal news not an airline crash! If you read a story on any railway accident in India every website has different figures on deaths and injured at any given time. Some of them do not update as well. Kian caters to your needs and replies personally.

Kian, I am slightly confused about the figures. If there had been 14 PPOs and another 14 jobs in Day Zero, bringing the total to 28, then where is the 47 coming from? Did you mean out of 47 offers, all in all 28 have been accepted including PPOs?

I can, but Kian has a policy against naming, I believe. She was the head of the IDIA Odisha Chapter, I believe and is in AZB Delhi now. You can figure it out yourself. This shows if a student is good enough, he/she will always end up in good places.

NLUJ is a very risky proposition. They have a very varied mix. Some are really good, others are not even worth the time. I dont about too much about the training and environment at NLUJ, but some of the lawyers who have graduated from there are quite slimy and malicious. But ofcouse it is a completely personal observation.

NLS folks think they do the world a favour by working, NUJS are downright bitchy, NALSAR people are cocky and clannish, SymB and ILS folks are just plain insecure with a chip on their shoulders. There are exceptions to all of the above statements. True some people are slimy from NLUJ but then so are some people from NLS, NUJS, NALSAR etc. Please don't generalise. Your statement reeks of immaturity. Are you jealous of NLUJ because they are doing better than you despite your misconception that you are from a better college? You need to introspect.

Sorry. My source at nalsar tells me that they had 13 ppos and 2 training contracts in hand and at least 22 others have accepted jobs over the weekend. So 37 confirmed jobs in all.
