Mumbai’s Indiabulls becomes law firm HQ as DSK Legal is 4th firm to move

Exclusive: DSK Legal will split across North and South Mumbai and move out of Nariman Point’s Express Towers after securing office space in the Lower Parel Indiabulls Centre, which also now houses three other law firms.

Around 15 litigation lawyer will stay in a building in South Mumbai opposite Colaba’s Yacht Club, while around 35 of the corporate lawyers will move to Indiabulls Centre’s Tower 2.

DSK has rented around 3,500 square feet in Colaba and roughly 12,000 square feet in Lower Parel.

DSK Legal managing partner Anand Desai said: “More and more clients seem to be far away from Nariman Point and for people who come from the suburbs from daily basis it is also more convenient.”

He added that the rent on the new property in Lower Parel was “slightly” lower than in Nariman Point, however, worryingly prices still appeared to be rising in Nariman Point.

The move from DSK’s old office in Express Towers will be complete by January 2011, said Desai.

S&R Associates started up its Mumbai office in July in Indiabulls, following Trilegal and Khaitan & Co moving into the same development in 2009.

Law firms AZB & Partners and ALMT Legal are based in Express Towers, with ALMT having taken on an additional half-floor in the building in February.

I am sure they had better reasons than addressing commuting to Nariman Point.

I am glad law firms are moving out of Nariman Point. While the move to rename Lower Parel as Upper Worli might have come a cropper, the skyline of the erstwhile mill area is going to give Mumbai a sky line that will, if not in the same bracket as Dubai, compare favourably with other Asian cities like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. (India's first 100 storey tower is coming up here, along with other 60-80 storey towers).

You might mention Amarchand is located nearby at Peninsula...I wonder why no one has gone to BKC yet. Maybe no one wants to work anywhere near Kurla - the most hellish place on earth. And BKC hardly is inspiring - the whole complex looks stunted. As if someone has crushed it with a giant hammer.

Isnt Luthra also moving to Indiabulls apparently, also when most managing/senior partners (decision makers) stay in SOBO chances are remote they would like to travel to BKC etc though I think it would help the associates/support staff (lesser rents to pay and bigger houses perhaps:-)) a lot as most stay in suburbs so BKC could be ideal. Apart from Amarchand, isnt Phoenix Legal also somehwere in Lower Parel but I am sure very soon Lower Parel will be saturated and I wont be surprised to see BKC being the next stop as its almost now like the quasi financial centre with the likes of ICICI, ILFS, BOB, JP Morgan, Citi etc already there

Up and coming Real Estate legal giant Law Point which is ranked in the third tier of Asia Pacific Legal 500 is also located in BKC even after having a huge fort office for a low rent. Its all about the facilities offered by these commercial complexes as well as proximity to the airport which is key these days.

yes, the number of firms that have set up office in BKC is also on the rise, considering firms like Majmudar & Co., King Stubb & Kasiva, Phoenix Legal, Law Point and a host of other firms set up their Mumbai offices here.
