MDP adds corporate, projects verticals with ex-MDP associates Pranav Jain, Malav Virani as partners

MDP & Partners now again has a corporate practice and a projects / banking practice respectively with the addition of two new partners after rehiring former associate Pranav N Jain and former associate Malav Virani.

A GLC Mumbai 2011 alumnus, corporate lawyer Jain was an associate at MDP for over 2 years until 2013, after which he had stints with Clove Legal and ALMT Legal.

A KC Law College 2011 alumnus, projects and banking lawyer Virani left MDP in January 2017 after seven years with the firm. He had left as a senior associate to join HSA Advocates as a senior associate until December 2017.

MDP founder and managing partner Nishit Dhruva commented: “Basically these were the two areas where we did not have the expertise which we have now got with these two incoming partners, so a vacuum has now filled in. Corporate was always a missing link in our practice areas.”

Jain is experienced in advising IT & ITES, e-commerce and tech clients on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital deals, cross-border collaborations, corporate restructuring, exchange control, family arrangements and intellectual property rights.

Virani is experienced in real estate, banking and finance and project finance sectors including security creation, unlisted debt transactions and general bank opinions and diligence.

MDP managing partner Ashok Paranjpe commented in a statement from the firm: “While Malav started his career with us and hence understands the firm’s ethos very well, Pranav brings varied experience of working with several law firms and big corporates. With a fine balance of internal and external perspectives, both Malav and Pranav will be mentoring the younger lawyers at the firm and taking charge of grooming them.”

MDP has also opened a second Mumbai office in addition to its older office in the city, in the Bandra Kurla Complex and now has 35 lawyers including six partners.

While Dhruva and Shinde focus on litigation and disputes, Paranjpe advises on real estate and MDP partner AK Mishra - who had joined in November 2017 - looks into banking work.
