Luthra to promote capital markets lawyer Geeta Dhania to partnership in Delhi, more to follow

Luthra & Luthra Delhi managing associate Geeta Dhania will be promoted to partnership on 1 February, confirmed authoritative sources, with other promotions to be announced shortly.

Dhania will head the firm’s Delhi capital markets practice, which is headed by Luthra Mumbai capital markets partner Manan Lahoty ever since former Luthra Delhi capital markets head Madhurima Mukherjee left the firm in August 2013.

Dhania graduated from NLSIU Bangalore, then joined Luthra Delhi and was made a managing associate at the firm in 2010.

Luthra managing partner Rajiv Luthra declined to confirm the news when contacted.

Who else is being promoted? This is new. Insiders getting to know information on Legallyindia than within the Firm! Geeta's partnership has been long due!

MA in 2010 & 5 years from MA to Partner?? That can't be right. Typically Luthra promotes to MA after 6yrs PQE, correct?? So, Geeta Dhania must have graduated in 2004 or earlier, i.e. she's 11 years PQE.

At least this one should be happy that Madhurima left!

Congrats Geeta. Well deserved and long over due. Looks like LL is FINALLY recognizing the stars in its basket. Now if only they do something about the ones that do nothing but act like they own the place...

She is a very competent lawyer. She has gone slow because she also has two kids to look after.

Also, the offsite trip(to Singapore) is being discussed with senior partners which is proposed to happen in the starting of April'2015. This is a radical strategy which L&L are trying at least gain its respect in the eyes of freshers retainers joined this year.

Though they give increments w.e.f. April every year, but the same is decided by the "Senior Partners" somewhere near Diwali time. Eventually, no one knows their retainer fee/ salary till the time the amount is being credited in the respective bank accounts. Also, no one knows his/her retainer fee before they join.

On coming Sunday, few may become so called Partner- Designate/Man.Ass./Sr.Ass., however no difference will be reflected in their monthly retainer fee.

So whats new? Thats how they function. Increments and promotions are decided by the classic 5 ONLY after their ears have been filled with nonsense by the so called ear whisperers.

A trip to Singapore... long gone are the days when they went to exotic locations like Turkey and China...

Classic 5? Who all?

She has been made PARTNER. Good for her. Well deserved no doubt. Sadly the negative sentiment pertaining to the firm will drown out the achievement here.. oh well.. C'est la vie....

WAITAMINUTE... Didnt they have another intermediary step... PARTNER DESIGNATE/ ASSOCIATE PARTNER where people were not promoted from MA to Partner.. instead to the intermediary.. "we dont think you're partner material but since you probably screamed, whined and cried into your senior partners ear.. we will give you a consolation prize..APt for you" position) before a person is made Partner there?

Just saying....

Luthra recently announced awards internally for its teams. Where's the news?

They prefer to stay out of the news because every news article, no matter how positive it may be just ends up in a bashing session. Guess there are tons of disgruntled employees around from there. Sad because the Firm was doing really well at one point in time but then somewhere they lost the plot and nose dived, fell off the radar but not it seems that they are making a gradual, controlled climb back up.

Great achievement, Geeta. Luthra (despite all this bashing in LI articles) is still on top. Obviously, a firm with 300 lawyers (and growing) cannot have "nose-dived"
