Luthra & Luthra has leased another 9,000 square feet in its existing Delhi office to build an indoor cricket practice pitch for fee-earners, following the firm’s victory at the law firm T-20 tournament last Sunday.

The new cricket floor will include an official size pitch, sound-proofing to enable fee-earners to continue working in the office during practice sessions and wall and ceiling netting to prevent batted balls damaging the infrastructure.

The space will also be fitted with air conditioning units, as well as soft-drinks and coffee machines.

The strategic conversion of the new 10th floor office area is still subject to receiving planning permission but is expected to be finished in two months.

Luthra & Luthra founder and managing partner Rajiv Luthra said: “We may have convincingly won this year’s SILF [cricket] tournament but the competition never sleeps and we can not stand still.

“Our cricket zone will ensure that our star cricketers will stay on top of their game even during the hot summer months and will be ready to go into the next season with a bang.”

Luthra & Luthra’s cricket team won the final to the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) – Kushal T20 tournament on Sunday (28 March), beating Amarchand Mangaldas in the final.

Rajiv Luthra explained that being successful in team sports was an inspiration to everyone at the firm and a “valuable commodity”, which he was keen to retain and nurture.

He also added that he expected 2010 to be a year of record billings and that the on-site cricket facilities would enable fee-earners to practice their bowling, batting and wicket-keeping during any short downtime between deals.

Last month the firm decided to lease and outfit an additional 7,000 square feet of floor space on the ninth floor of its Delhi office and took on 7,000 square feet in November 2009.

In December 2009 Amarchand launched a crèche for the children of working parents in its Delhi office.
