Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan has hired Ashwin Mathew as a M&A, private equity and general corporate and finance partner in Mumbai.
The 1998 NLSIU Bengaluru graduate had previously been a partner for three years at Mumbai firm Mansukhlal Hiralal & Company, where according to our report in October he had acted with partner Bhushan Shah for Modern India in a $3.2m investment round in Crediwatch.
Before Masukhlal, Mathew had been at SB Partners for four years. He had begun his career at erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas, joining Khaitan & Co in 2007 and making partner there in 2010.
LKS managing partner V Lakshmikumaran said in a statement: “After meeting him multiple times, it was clear to me that he is at a good position as a lawyer and will be a great asset to our firm with his infectious thirst for knowledge.”
“Ashwin’s experience and skillset dovetail well with the firm’s existing capabilities to further deepen our corporate and financing practice in Mumbai,” he added. “With strong focus on deep research and excellent drafting and client management skills, we look forward to building a robust team under him in Mumbai to pursue the firm’s commitment to service the ever-expanding needs of our clients excellently.”

One can only wish and hope that Mr. Ashwin would prove to be an exception to this unfortunate trend in LKS.
