Kochhar & Co has hired Delhi-based Corporate Law Group senior partner Ngangom Junior Luwang as a partner to attempt to build a North East India-targeted practice.

Luwang (pictured) joined as the head of Kochhar & Co's oil & gas and infrastructural development practice in Delhi on 6 April.

He told Legally India that the firm had ambitious plan for a robust practice in India's North East, with him spearheading the development there.

Luwang has focuses on corporate and commercial advice in the oil, gas and infrastructure sectors, as well as in the offshore financial sector.

Luwang graduated from ILS Pune, starting as a Supreme Court practitioner in 1995. After a brief stint at Fox Mandal he joined Corporate Law Group in 1998 as an associate, rising to senior partner level.

Corporate Law Group confirmed the Luwang's departure but its managing partner Krishna Sarma was unavailable for comment.

Luwang is the Kochhar & Co's 19th India-based partner, according to the firm. Earlier this month it promoted litigation partner Syed Naqvi to its senior partnership.
