Khaitan & Co has ramped up its technology, media and telecoms (TMT) practice in Mumbai with the hire of Bengaluru-based IndusLaw partner Tanu Banerjee.
Banerjee had been at IndusLaw since 2017, and had been promoted in 2019 to partner.
The 2008 Symbiosis graduate is the first specialist Mumbai-based TMT partner.
“She will be a great addition to our niche TMT practice,” commented Khaitan executive director HR, Amar Sinhji.
“We foresee tremendous growth in the TMT practice with the impact that the Covid-19 crises has had on the telecom (and related technology & media) industry. There is always a silver lining to every dark cloud!,” he added. “Our TMT practice, like all other practices, operates as a national practice and Tanu’s joining will increase our national footprint substantially.”
IndusLaw commented: “We are wishing her the best.”

Please go find some work.
While it may be possible for an exceptional associate to in fact be recognised, but where it involves multiple such associates across firms, it does raise questions about the ranking process. Assuming you got ranked as a partner, you should be really bothered about the target audience not finding much credibility in these rankings given the presence of 2nd year associates. Got nothing against them associates, but one got to really ask if a 2nd year associate can match up to a 10 yr experience partner (purely on experience, not on ability). Rankings, after all, are about pitting one against another.
Don't really know of other reputable publications such as Chambers ranking non-partners that often.
1. KCO keeps on hiring partners: Irrelevant to the context here.
2. but does not give increments of previous year: Right, did not give increment but then lawyers in other leading firms also had to go through the same. Partners took a hit of 20 % but not associates like us.
3. and comes up with flimsy excuses as well to not give the same: It was the start of the pandemic during March-April 2020 and I don't think coronavirus situation has been a flimsy situation for law practice. When you start your business and have 1000 people to be paid, you will realise the importance of cash/funds that may come handy in case of uncertain future .
4. God knows what's the Town Hall of 28 January is for: You're are clearly an insider (and, insidious one too).
5. Hoping that they won't again say that business was not good: They never said that, hopefully never will. Had it been the case, you would have not received that huge bonus on 31 March 2020, which, of course, you failed to mention.
