Kakkar has been offered to become national competition head at CAM, providing a welcome boost to its competition practice that had seen the loss of competition head Nisha Kaur Uberoi to AZB & Partners (and ultimately to Trilegal).
Kakkar leaving, would however leave a hole in Khaitan’s competition practice, which also includes US-based Paku Khan, Delhi-based Manas Kumar Chaudhuri and Delhi associate partner Sagardeep Rathi.
Her move to CAM, if it goes through, will coincide with corporate associate partner
When contacted yesterday for comment, executive director for HR, Amar Sinhji, said Kakkar had not resigned, while confirming the departures of Patel and Baxi, wishing them well.
We could not reach Kakkar and CAM at the time of going to press.
Kakkar is a 2003, ILS Pune graduate, who was promoted to Khaitan’s equity in 2013.
She had joined the firm in 2005 from Nishith Desai Associates, where she had spent one year after a short stint at erstwhile Udwadia & Udeshi.
Kakkar’s, Patel’s and Baxi’s leaving would reduce the number of female partners at

Kakkar is too nice a person for CAM
Definitely a big loss to KCO! A thorough professional with deep insights and guidance to share on every matter.
[...] and [...] were made Partners out of turn and CAM realized its mistake when the clients stopped giving it work. Including even Adani.
Its better to have a (read 1) good Partner [...]
Its easy to criticise others. Why don't you learn how to spell first!
Bharat wss the best part of her team, he didn't go anywhere
[Kian you can't censor this because you said previously that somewhat mean things about equity partners are fine because they are senior enough to be able to take it. I see you censored stuff about BB and ANS above, but they're not equity :-)]
So a comment saying "Nisha's a terrible lawyer" (she isn't, of course), would be censored?
That seems unfair.
Avaantika is a great strategic move as this will help CAM reverse some losses it probably incurred because of the leadership vacuum in its competition practice
Competing tier 1 firms who were operating on the principle (competitior's weakness is their strength) - this will no longer hold true and the fight to earn mandates will only get tougher from here on!
Daksha Baxi will give CAM the much needed fire power to beef up its tax offering. She is also recognised as a leading private client professional which will further strengthen CAMs PCP offering.
Big loss for KCO!!
PS: SAM, AZB - Be ready for some real fight now!! Bitching about avaantika or even Nisha won't do you guys any good!!
Moral of the story: Whether you are in MNC or Family Owned Law Firm kind of shop, it means nothing till you are a born brilliant Criminal Lawyer. The actual intelligence is with Criminal Lawyers
( Now I know everyone will do a Google search on difference between PE and JV but you know only when you work)
All the best
It's the same everywhere. That's why we need firang law firms to come in and bring some semblance of sanity and professionalism. Bring all these wannabe meritocracies to their real status.
Offices are nothing more than social clubs and promotions are a farce.
The GC to whom the cake was sent all the way to Singapore is a partner in Delhi now.

Monthly after tax it is 1,01,250. Bonus (which is generally full for A0s) - 1 lakh.
