Khaitan & Co has hired its second full-time banking partner, with former Clifford Chance London and Singapore senior associate Devidas Banerji joining in Mumbai.
Banerji (pictured) had started his career at Clifford Chance in 2002, beginning as a trainee, qualifying as an associate in asset finance and moving to join the firm’s Singapore general banking and finance team in 2007.
He had graduated from Symbiosis Pune in 2001 after which he completed an LLM at the University of Cambridge in 2002. He is dual qualified as an advocate and solicitor in West Bengal and England & Wales respectively.
Banerji and Khaitan & Co were unavailable for comment but the firm wrote in a press release said that Banerji’s appointment reinforced the belief to provide “high quality and specialist services” to its clients in banking and finance. Partner Rabindra Jhujhnunwala wrote: “Within a short period of time we have created a formidable banking and finance practice out of the Mumbai office.”
In April the firm hired former White & Case senior associate Shishir Mehta to build up its specialist banking practice in Mumbai as a partner and only last week Legally India reported that Khaitan & Co had introduced a salaried-partnership rung with the hire of Rajat Mukherjee as an associate partner in Delhi from Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in New York.
The firm’s total partnership is now 43 partners, including one non-equity partner.

1)which city is the firm based in?
2) is it a family firm?
3) is it a young firm?
4) does it have any "best friend" relationship with a foreign firm?
[The original post did not mention the name of the firm or person but was just using inappropriate language so we had to edit. -Ed]
Where we may normally moderate is where individuals are named. For one, most of the time if individuals are criticised it is very hard to establish whether something is valid or whether it is just a disgruntled former employee or a rival.
Many lawyers are also very thin skinned when it comes to personal criticism, no matter how justified, and we try to tread a fine line between freedom of expression and turning the forums into a massive mud-slinging match.
If you express things delicately and sensitively they will normally get through - on most average days I'd say we only moderate 1 comment out of 50 or 100 (apart from spam).
Hope this helps.
Best regards
Kian
Ps: There was also a but in the commenting system for the last 2 months which may have swallowed some comments. Will elaborate shortly...
