Kochhar & Co has hired two K Law Delhi partners - Pradeep Ratnam, who effectively headed its office in the city, and Parul Verma; both specialise in banking and finance.
Verma, a 2010 GGSIP University graduate, had joined K Law as an associate partner around 2017, becoming partner in April 2020.
She had previously worked at HSA, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and InterGlobe Hotels Private Limited.
We have reached out to K Law, Kochhar and Ratnam for comment.
A Kochhar spokesperson has confirmed their joining.
Mumbai-headquartered K Law had seen a number of partner departures in Delhi during Ratnam’s tenure (as well as nationally more recently in a mass break-away).

How is that sad? A firm is responsible for what it becomes. If one does not value lawyers, have a horrible and toxic work atmosphere, continuous screaming, no continuity of professionals, this is what happens. The onus is on the partners. There are several other law firms that are younger than these two and are doing better with a better work atmosphere. I even hear K Law's breakaway Anoma has a great work culture. K Law partners until recently have been quitting to join Anoma! Even Kocchar cannot retain talent. Firms like Indus have come and taken the market by storm. Others could not change their mindset. People deserve what they give out. That's why no one cares now.
The screaming part is quite true. I have seen them very rude too. And apparently there is a rule that you are not allowed smoke breaks or other breaks!! I don't even think of joining a jail like that. Its nice that I got to intern. Other places were much better.
This is a match made in heaven - Pradeep and Kochhar are good mentors brilliant lawyers and ethical people. With this hire, this firm should easily become the best in all practice areas.
Baring IL&FS’ collapse; which obviously he had no part in, arguably.
This guy has one hell of a resume, right from the school to law school and the work-ex. How does one like him not move to a much well-known law firm or in-house?
More importantly, how much does a guy like him make with such amazing creds? Or do these creds don’t really matter, if you can’t hold your own?
Pradeep is a high performing and well respected senior lawyer and his clients including his foreign clientele swear by him. He is also a great mentor, team builder and great fun to work with.
I have worked with Pradeep Ratnam as a client for the last couple of years, and watched him interact with his team members and other colleagues. He is a team player and a humble and amiable professional. I am sure he will do well in Kochhar & Co. My best wishes to him for his new endeavours.
Having worked with Pradeep Sir, I can testify to the fact that’s he’s one of the most humble and good natured boss to work for. He goes out of his way to help his juniors to be better at servicing clients and eventually becoming better lawyers. A brilliant addition to Kochhar & Co.
There is a particular breed of lawyer who is capable and has a lot of self respect who wont settle easily in places like CAM or SAM, etc because of the work culture. That probably explains why he has avoided being in the larger firms. He is well respected by his clients and his intelligence and credentials are not in doubt. Management of an office or its people may not be his thing; he may be better off as a pure practicing lawyer. Kochhar is a better platform than most people think and it has quite a few good people across the country doing good work and respected by their clients. The firm also has an enviable multinational clientele including a huge Fortune 500 clientele. Ultimately, a person like him needs a good platform to perform which respects him, supports him and shares profit equitably with him.
