J Sagar Associates’ (JSA) dispute practice partners have unanimously elected Mumbai-based equity partner Varghese Thomas and Delhi-based equity partner Dheeraj Nair to co-head the disputes practice.
They have taken over from the previous two co-chairs effective from 1 April 2020.
Delhi-based Dhirendra Negi and Chennai-based Vinod Kumar had been jointly heading the practice; Negi had been co-heading for six years and Kumar was elected into the co-chair role in February 2019, following the move of Farhad Sorabjee into the firm’s remuneration committee.
According to JSA’s statement, they will “take the responsibility of the boosting the growth of the practice”.
JSA’s two other practice groups are corporate and finance.
Corporate remains co-headed by Gurgaon-based Shivpriya Nanda and Bangalore-based Sajai Singh.
Mumbai’s Aashit Shah continues chairing the finance practice.

It is called “retained”, “associate” or “salaried” partnership, but with a twist
You will get your fixed retainer with no voting rights (even if the firm does not pay your retainer).
And you will get no preferential treatment from the firm’s Shylocks for holding out.
For any further queries, please do feel free to look me up. I was born in 1932 and I am still around.
