Sherina Petit: Maintaining London India connection
Sherina Petit: Maintaining London India connection
Norton Rose disputes of counsel Sherina Petit has been promoted to partnership at Norton Rose’s London office.

She is part of Norton Rose’s India-focused dispute resolution team, specialising particularly in arbitration in international arbitration involving Indian companies under the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration chamber, as well as UNCITRAL and other rules.

Norton Rose London partner Joe Tirado, who heads the international arbitration team, commented in an email: “Sherina’s election to partnership further strengthens our dispute resolution capabilities, particularly in relation to India related disputes.”

Petit, who graduated from GLC Mumbai in 1998 followed by an LLM in King’s College London, started her career at Linklaters, followed by Shearman & Sterling where she became a senior associate in 2005.

In 2008 she spent four months on secondment in the Tata Group’s and Taj Hotels’ legal department, and joined Norton Rose in January 2009.

One year ago she was promoted to of counsel, and has now been made partner effective yesterday (1 May).

Congratulations to Sherina. While I dont know her, it is nice to hear that few Indian lawyers are able to break the proverbial "glass ceiling" in English law firms..

Seconded - Sherina is one of the main "go to" lawyers for international arbitrations emanating from India.

Now that she has made partner I would say that Sherina is THE go to person for arbitration in India. For someone so young, her track record in this area in exemplary.

What is surprising is that none of the Big Laws in India have a dedicated international dispute resolution practice, especially with foreign arbitral tribunals. Several indian companies who have been dragged into international commercial arbitration have no option but to consult a foreign firm with an "india practice", simply because their local firm doesn't have the expertise. And this, they are forced to do at a prohibitive cost.

What do you mean?! @#$%#!$% GLC people are as good as any NLS people. Let's not start "your University-my University war" on this forum.

Way to go Sherina, you have made all your college people proud today by your achievements.

Is that a complement for another human being? Really commendable. Especially coming from someone NOT from GLC.

I just wanted to say that the achievement is commendable given her background - a woman, from India and that too from GLC and not from a tier 1 NLU. These are hard facts. Sorry if they seem to bother you - but they are true.

Your post and the lack of grammar in it are not doing a great job of representing your college! A little bit of punctuation and correct spelling won't do you any harm.

Agreed. So called "GLCite" is not representative of the college. Others who are, wouldn't post on this forum.

Now peace.

First correct your English dude! This is the worst piece of writing that I have seen in a long time. Is this what you are taught in college?! No wonder people make the remarks they do.

@nalsarite-His/her english or grammar may be wrong but whatever he has written is completely true. GLC is one the best law colleges in the country and will always remain one of the best. There are students working as associates, partners etc in top law firms across the world especially the magic circle firms. The only thing lacking is the 'publicity'.

Don't talk about what we are taught in college because as far as i know, NALSAR is no 'Gurukul' where everything is perfect.NALSAR's moot team fot the tax moot said that instead of going to class we have sex in the campus. i prefer being taught 'broken' english rather than be doped out and f**k around.Your VC was accused mismanagement and sexual harrassment, speaks a lot about 'NALSAR'.

@anon-I dun knw man from which college you belong to , but i believe you the most 'vella' lawyer or student because you comment on everything. Please do something productive.I dun think your law school (if you are in) gives me much work.

Sherina has just shown how a student from a humble yet great law college can do. The sad part is the arrogant NLUites can't believe that with all the money being pumped in, the infrastructure etc GLC still somehow fights for the top spot and most of the times wins

As always, even the most positive of news on the professional front can (and will) turn into my college is better than your college fight and people from other colleges 'when giving advise to correct grammar' will NOT forget to mention that they come from a 'premier' law school.

Guys - to hell with your personal thoughts ... this is the page for reading upon and congratulating Ms. Sherina Petit. Do it and leave.

Dear Kian,

Tell me honestly, you do enjoy this "my college vs your college war" that happens continuously don't you? Your article almost reads like the TOI.. like OMG Person from Minority religion tops SSC exams in the state!

And seriously everyone else..grow the hell up!!!
No..I'm not from any of the N school, I'm from GLC and as much as I'm trying to like GLC *I'm trying real hard I promise), I don't think its the best law school, far from it infact. I mean it has NO professors. Ofcourse, I adore Professor P (Pithawala to all you N kids)and I made some awesome friends..but really nothing more.
