Fox & Mandal Calcutta promotes unprecedented 7 to partner, more than doubling total partnership to 12

The Kolkata-based firm Fox & Mandal LLP has promoted 7 of its lawyers to partnership, growing its total partnership to 12, with nearly 60 fee-earners across its four offices.

The promotions take effect as of 1 July 2018.

Partner Debanjan Mandal told us that the promotions were a “long- and well-merited due”, adding: “It is the first time in Fox & Mandal Kolkata that at this scale 7 elevations have been announced together.”

The new salaried partners are, according to the firm’s press release:

Sanjiv Kumar Trivedi has been associated with F&M since 2004. He has around 20 years of experience in dispute resolution, company laws, contract laws and succession laws. He has appeared in Courts throughout India, having exposure in the District Courts, regularly in the High Courts and Tribunals, to having a near regular attendance at the Supreme Court of India. He also appears regularly before the National Company Law Tribunals and other quasi-judicial authorities; and has several reported judgements to his credit. Sanjiv completed his graduation from University of Burdwan in 1998.

Orijit Chatterjee joined F&M in 1999 and has been providing legal support and advice to international and national clients with respect to corporate transactions and related matters. His main areas of practice include joint ventures, infrastructure projects, Foreign Exchange Regulations related issues including investment related advise and conducting due diligence on entities on behalf of potential investors, and assisting foreign companies in their day to day operations in India. Orijit completed his law degree from the University of Burdwan in 1998.

Sumit Dhar has been with F&M since 2000 and has approximately 18 years of experience in advising clients on corporate, commercial and real estate matters. His experience includes conducting due diligence on behalf of various real estate clients; and representing clients on contractual issues, joint development agreements and infrastructure projects. Sumit earned his law degree from University of Burdwan in 2001 and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Calcutta.

Prerona Sil has been associated with F&M since 2003 and gained experience in litigation and dispute resolution services. She has assisted and represented clients in various High Courts on commercial issues, labour laws and shipping related issues. She has since transitioned and developed her expertise in advising clients on real estate, corporate advisory and succession matters. Prerona has completed her graduation from Calcutta University in 2003.

Biswajit Kumar joined F&M in 2009 and has approximately 14 years of experience in advising and assisting clients in the areas of litigation, company law, contract law, family law, land law, succession law and intellectual property laws. He has been actively leading litigation and dispute resolution matters within the Firm and has been instrumental in the successful completion of many cases. Biswajit started his career in 2004 and has graduated from Department of Law, University of Calcutta.

Sourav Bhagat joined F&M in 2010 and has over 13 years of experience in banking and finance, business and commercial laws, company law, contract law, mergers and acquisitions and real estate. He has also been responsible for a wide range of assignments including of government contracts, from the inception till execution. Sourav graduated from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata in the year 2005.

Sharmistha Ghosh joined F&M in 2005 as an intern and thereafter as an Associate in 2009. She has been active in the litigation and dispute resolution practice of the Firm. She has extensive experience in representing clients before various Tribunals, High Courts and the Supreme Court of India on matters relating to labour laws, environmental laws, taxation, corporate laws and contractual issues. Sharmistha has graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata with Honours in Mathematics and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law.

Fox & Mandal was founded in 1896 by JK Fox and GC Mandal.
