Ex-MNK partner Probal Bhaduri joins PDS in Delhi, not Cyril

In April earlier this year, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) acquired three out of four MNK Law Offices partners in Delhi but three authoritative sources have confirmed that the fourth partner, Probal Bhaduri, has now joined PDS Legal offices in Delhi.

Legally India reported at the time that Bhaduri would be joining a large accounting firm. PDS is the legal best friend of E&Y, which has faced action from Society of Indian Law Firms (Silf) alongside the other Big Four accountancy firm, in part for poaching partners from law firms.

It is understood that Probal moved to PDS as a partner in the non-litigation practice with his team consisting of three associates, one of whom is a senior associate.Probal specialises in corporate and mergers & acquisitions work, and has previously worked as investment firm Avenue Capital Group’s director of legal in India. Before that he was a partner at the Delhi office of AZB & Partners and has also worked with Garrett & Co., a law firm in London.

When contacted last week, Bhaduri did not deny the news of his joining PDS Legal with his team but said that he was unavailable for comments.

Several other PDS Legal partners did not respond to comments since last week.

It is honourable to not loose your identity as a lawyer by establishing a practice by joining an organisation where your success depends on loosing your identity.

PDS is a law firm and not an accountancy firm, so loss of identity etc. does not arise. Likely PDS will be more professional than the Lala shops that we today have. Tell me more about honour in working in the Lala shops.

I think first comment was directed at him not joining CAM, where though technically there's no loss of identity, everyone knows you're just a
