DLA Piper London-based India group member and legal director Joywin Mathew has been promoted to its partnership, in a promotion round of 77 lawyers across 43 different offices in 20 countries, according to DLA’s press release.

Mathew specialises in equity and debt capital markets, across South Asia but particularly in India, being “closely engaged with the ‘Masala’ bond market and foreign currency bond issuances from India”, according to his firm profile.

He had acted on National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) debut issuance of Rs 30 bn of Masala Bonds, which was the world’s largest such issuance for a five year bond.

Mathew is a 2002 LLB graduate from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, and holds a 2005 LLM from the University of Warwick.

He had been at DLA since 2013, having joined as a senior associate in Singapore from White & Case, where he had worked in London and Singapore between 2006 and 2013 (with two 11-month London secondments at Deutsche Bank and and Citigroup).
