Mumbai-headquartered Argus Partners has hired Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) counsel Udit Mendiratta as a partner in its Delhi office’s disputes practice.
Mendiratta had been at SAM since July 2019, having joined from Trilegal where he had worked since 2013.
He is a 2010 Amity Law School graduate.
Managing partner Krishnava Dutt commented in a press release: “We warmly welcome Udit to the Argus family. The disputes practice in Delhi which has been going from strength to strength under the leadership of R Sudhinder, senior partner, will be significantly bolstered by his joining.”
Mendiratta is the 18th partner at Argus Partners, of whom 6 are equity or senior partners.
A SAM Delhi spokesperson commented: “We wish him the best for his new role.”

Why do we see more Tier 1 counsels/partners joining smaller (by no.) firms, or starting their own firms? Is that a sign that they have learnt hunting birds?
No big law firm teaches you to hunt especially at the salaried partner/PA/Counsel level. You are there to just service the work. It does not bode well for them if you start making rain yourself. The business is controlled by the equity guys. This is just the way business works; no right or wrong in this.
