Bank of America Trustees consultant director Niloufer Lam will join Amarchand’s banking and structured finance group in Mumbai from 15 May.
She had previously also worked at KBC Bank, Morgan Stanley and as a senior counsel at Linklaters between 1996 and 2006. She is dual qualified in India and as an English solicitor.
Effective from 1 April, the firm has also promoted Mumbai partner designate Ganesh Prasad, who had joined the firm in 2006 from Trilegal, relocating from Amarchand Bangalore to Mumbai in May of last year.
Ganesh Prasad specialises in M&A and private equity and is also dual qualified in India and England.
In Delhi, corporate and regulatory partner designate Suhaan Mukerji and corporate partner designate Anuj Prasad were also promoted to the partnership with effect from 1 April.
Mukerji had been with the firm since 2002, before which he was an analyst with the World Bank, and Anuj Prasad joined Amarchand in 2006 from Dua Associates.
Mumbai managing partner Cyril Shroff said that in June the firm would announce further promotions to partner designate status and other senior associate positions, as well as potentially revising base salaries.

Did some digging and found this on SRA website. there is more about the requirement of practicing certificate in case you are interested.
20.02 Practising certificates
(1)
If you are practising as a solicitor you must, whether practising in a firm or in-house:
(a)
have in force a practising certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority; or
(b)
be exempt under section 88 of the Solicitors Act 1974 from holding a practising certificate.
(2)
You will be practising as a solicitor if you are involved in legal practice and:
(a)
your involvement in the firm or the work depends on your being a solicitor;
(b)
you are held out explicitly or implicitly as a practising solicitor;
(c)
you are employed explicitly or implicitly as a solicitor; or
(d)
you are deemed by section 1A of the Solicitors Act 1974 to be acting as a solicitor.
(3)
In (2) above "legal practice" includes not only the practice of law but also the provision of other services such as are provided by solicitors.
(4)
If you are a solicitor who was formerly an REL, and you are practising from an office in the UK as a lawyer of an Establishment Directive profession, you must have in force a practising certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, even if you are not practising as a solicitor.
Given that Suhan only graduated with the NLS batch of 2002, it is astonishing to note that he was ostensibly working with the World Bank in 2001. Hello, facts????
Kian - I really feel for you. Especially when you have to deal with comments where people think they have caught a mistake.
Doing the QLTT and calling yourself a UK solicitor makes me laugh.
The true test is getting a job within a UK firm. Doing the QLTT is not partic well regarded.
