Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai partner Vandana Pai Bharucha has left the firm for health reasons.

NLSIU Bangalore 2003 alum Pai joined Amarchand from campus but took one year as sabbatical to do her LLM from Columbia University School of Law in 2006. She made partner at the firm in April 2010, in the team of Mumbai corporate partner Ashwath Rau.

Rau did not respond to an email seeking comment since yesterday.

Mumbai capital markets partner Abhimanyu Bhattacharya also left the firm this week, while former RBI deputy governor Anand Sinha joined in Mumbai as a full-time senior advisor (financial services).

Vandana is from the Bharucha family of Bharucha Partners. Isn't she joining them. She is also second partner resigning from Ashwath Rao's team. Aishwarya left in April and now Bhattacharya going to Khaitan. About time to keep the salaried partners happy?

Health reasons do not mean exiting the legal community, Einstein. Temporary break to be followed by a new job. As an aside only amarchand can survive two partners quitting in 3 days without blinking. Brand power. If this was 2 Luthra partners there would be 100 comments.

Im assuming you are aware of the severity of the health problems for being confident enough to assume she will be joining back. Unless she is joining Bharucha, there are few better places to go for a partner who is doing well (and I understand she was). So probably the more prudent thing to do was to take a break (which was possible without having to quit, and which she has not).

So unless you know, it doesnt make sense to assume or speculate just because it is fashinable to do so.

Separately and importantly, the first comment from Disclosure suggests that she is leaving because she is unhappy here. And that cant clearly be deciphered from the story above which cites health as reasons. So the kind suggestion for Amarchand to keep its people happy, if made in general is fine, but as a consequence of this departure (being for other reasons), is slightly misplaced in my opinion.

'unhappy here'? This explains personal interest. Disclosure puts Abhimanyu and Vandana exits as part of a wider problem to be addressed as five partners have left in less than two years. Happy people don't quit and stay on or take a sabbatical provided they want to return.

Vandana is a top notch lawyer who is completely committed to her work. Huge loss for Amarchand.
