Alpha Partners has promoted associate partner Sumit Roy, who is heading the firm’s disputes practice, to partner.
The promotion of the 2010 IMS Law College Noida graduate takes effect from 1 October.
He had joined the firm in 2013, with a stint at erstwhile Seth Dua & Associates from 2016 to 2017.
The disputes practice at Alpha includes sectors such as construction and real estate, and fintech and e-commerce.
It specialises in white-collar crimes, commercial litigation and arbitration, according to a statement from the firm.
Roy said in the press release: “The disputes practice vertical has witnessed gradual but substantial increase in mandates over the years. The growth in the vertical bears testament to the confidence which our clients have reposed in otherwise a relatively young team.
“Over the last couple of months, queries relating to invocation of force majeure in contracts have been on rise and we see several potential litigations in this respect.”
Alpha managing partner Akshat Pande commented: “Sumit has been a great pillar of strength for the firm and for me personally. I am delighted for his growth within the firm and growth of the contentious practice under him“
In the press release, Roy added: “My journey with Alpha over the last several years has been more than fulfilling.
“The firm has not only given me the opportunity to grow as a professional and spearhead the disputes practice vertical, but also has accorded me the opportunity to grow as an individual. I hope that in this new role, I shall be able to contribute more towards the firm and in the practice vertical in general.”
