Advani & Co partner Shashank Garg moves to Suri & Co for growth

Advani & Co litigation partner Shashank Garg has left the firm to join Delhi litigation firm Suri & Co as partner.

“[Advani’s] Delhi office is small and for some time it has remained at the same size, so it was important for me to get into something that has more growth opportunities. So I got an offer from Suri & Co.

“It has around 30 lawyers and has a name in litigation and dispute resolution in Delhi. [Suri & Co founder Mr Rupinder Suri] has now [in 2009] been designated as a senior [advocate] so we have the firm’s credentials and his own credentials, they have a separate corporate team, the office size is bigger,” commented Garg.

Garg said that at Suri he will be building on the dispute resolution practice with a focus on international commercial arbitration, while his matters at Advani will be handled by the firm’s litigation partner Apar Gupta.

Suri & Co now has four litigation partners.

Garg, Gupta and former Advani partner Animesh Sinha had joined the firm in June 2011 after their independent litigation and corporate advisory practice Accendo Law Partners had merged with the firm. Sinha left Advani two years ago, confirmed Garg.

Advani managing partner Hiroo Advani has not reachable for comments by Legally India since yesterday.

While congratulations are in order, for a partner to comment the way he did on his move at the first paragraph is extremely distasteful and shows poor integrity. This seconds my argument why extremely young professionals should never be made partners is big firms.

Not everyone who has good things to say about a place he/she leaves is being diplomatic. People may genuinely have good things in mind. I think PXA's point is that you owe something to a place which has nurtured you and if nothing else you need to have respect for that. Everyone has differences but you don't need to be sore about it.

PXA, if you read the paragraph again, you will see that he is merely saying that the office was small and wasn't growing. Now that is his point of view which I think you should respect.

You mean old men naturally have integrity despite seeing the real ugly world, while the youngsters who rely on ideals more than life-experience don't? Ha ha ha. I see nothing wrong in stating a fact and honestly stating the real reason.

Btw, you believe Advani is a "big" firm because ____?

Thank you Apar and others, I agree leaving of one person is not going to affect the firm in any manner. Hiroo remains a great mentor and friend to me. As far as my integrity is concerned I would leave it to either my former or current employer to Judge or comment, in any case I bow down to honest criticism.

Advani & Co as a firm remains as strong as ever. The Delhi office has seen good business coming in of late. It is just a three year old office. A major Arbitration approximately once a week happens not only in Mumbai, Bangalore ( and abroad, but also in Delhi.

Congratulations to Shashank... but with more than 7 Partner + a number of sa, associate exits in the last 15 months at Advani & CO., merger with a never heard of pune firm, is the ship already under water?
