Four-year old Delhi corporate firm Zeus Law Associates has beefed up its practice with the hire of a former US in-houser as a managing associate and three associates fresh out of law schools.

Jashan Brar is joining Zeus Law today (9 November), having previously worked as an in-house counsel at New-York investment fund India Ventures Group from April 2008.

Zeus senior partner Sunil Tyagi said: "He is joining the litigation and commercial transaction team under Vivek Kohli to start with, but would also be given responsibilities in corporate law side."

Before working in-house, Brar was an associate at Reed Smith from September 2007, before which he completed his LLM at the University of Pennsylvania.

Before his stint in the US he had worked for four years with senior advocate K.K. Venogopal in Delhi.

For the first months at Zeus Law, said Tyagi, Brar would supervise one senior associate and two associates and that within three to six months he would be hoped to be managing a team of six to seven lawyers.

Brar told Legally India that he decided to return to India for personal reasons. He selected Zeus Law as he had prior acquaintance with the members of the firm and felt it was a good opportunity to grow in the profession.

The firm of 25 associates has also hired Pragiti Jajoo from ILS Pune and Seema Redhu and Vardhan Tulsian from Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) as associates in October.

Tyagi said the firm was also keen to grow the indirect tax practice under Vivek Kohli to include a whole new team of lawyers handling GST (Goods and Service Taxes) related work in the future.

Vaish Associates and AZB & Partners have recently made hires in the indirect tax area with the same aim.

Zeus Law Associates was founded in 2005 with Rohit Tandon as managing partner and Vivek Kohli and Sunil Tyagi as senior partners.

The firm is currently advising Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (HSIIDC) in a ten thousand acre Reliance SEZ project in the National Capital Territory (NCR) region.
