Bangalore-headquartered firm Narasappa, Doraswamy & Raja (NDR) has absorbed the three-month-old Mumbai start-up of former AZB & Partners partner Vineetha MG, to create a newly rebranded merged firm called Samvād Partners.
According to a press release from NDR, the firm will have three partners in Bangalore - Harish Narasappa, Siddharth Raja and Poornima Hatti (who heads the dispute resolution practice) – while Vineetha MG, a corporate and finance lawyer, will continue to be based in Mumbai.
MG commented in the release that the firms shared synergies, values and complementary practice areas, and added: “A larger set up (comprising approximately 25 lawyers) and our combined faculties and areas of expertise will also give us the platform to ensure a seamless service to clients across India and overseas.”
Narasappa noted in the statement: “The new office in Mumbai, and increased capacity in New Delhi and Chennai, will give us a nationwide team. It will also provide new challenges to our lawyers.”
The new branding of the firm – Samvād – is derived from the Sanskrit words for Sama (equal) and Vād (to speak), therefore implying dialogue, discussion and communication.
In February, NDR had recruited Rohan G George as a partner to head up its intellectual property (IP) practice in Chennai.
The firm also has an office in Delhi. The merger will take effect on 1 April 2013.
