SAs, partners from AZB, HSA, JSA, Luthra, Zeus IP start up Delhi firm

Five lawyers from HSA Advocates, J Sagar Associates (JSA), Luthra & Luthra, AZB & Partners and Zeus IP have started Delhi firm Jupiter Law Partners.

HSA Advocates partner Jagvir Singh and Zeus IP partner Sujit Thakur have started the firm as two of five co-founding partners with three former senior associates - Madhukar Tomar from JSA, Meera Chature from Luthra, Atish Vatts from AZB - in February, reported Bar & Bench, with five other fee-earners.

Singh graduated in 2002 from Delhi University; Tomar in 2003 with an English law degree from School of Oriental and African Studies, taking the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) in the England & Wales in 2004; Chature in 2001 from NLSIU Bangalore; and Vatts in 2004 from NLSIU.

Singh did not respond to an email from Legally India seeking comment.

HSA managing partner Hemant Sahai commented that he wished Singh well but that the firm had “two project finance partners Anjan and Navin”, so there would be “no gap whatsoever” with Singh’s departure.

Kian, from what I know Tomar, Chature and Vatts are all partners and not SAs. Please do check.

Their Linked-in profiles said they were all senior associates at their last gig.

Though yes, they're all partners in Jupiter. Maybe the copy wasn't entirely clear (meant to say 'former senior associates'). Will clarify...

Meera left Luthra years ago and since then has had her own independent practice. Thus the headline/article is a bit misleading - as if she is breaking away from Luthra to co-start Jupiter.

Wish the young firm all the very best. May they breach the "escape velocity of Jupiter"

Hi Kian. Can you confirm if HSA has two project finance partners or three? Didnt Avirup join HSA as a partner?
Also, for some reason I cant locate the LI article on this.

Avirup is not a project finance lawyer. Also, technically he's not a Partner but a 'Partner Designate'.

By that logic, even Vatts was an associate at luthra some years ago.
It is not correct to represent that Mr X from Luthra has started own law firm when Mr X left Luthra years ago and it is not publicly known where Mr. X was since then.
But I guess, one should exploit one's CV

There was some speculation on the B&B article in its comments that two Tui lawyers will be joining Jupiter as partners. Is there any real development there - Jupiter Partners?

Let us be honest, pals. Law firm type business is getting more and more fragmented. The heydays of corporate law firms are over. In a a bad economy, the first item to take a hit are the legal fees payable to solicitors. The future of legal profession lies only in litigation.

It never matters to hemant who leaves or joins??? Why does he bother hiring anyone. Simply copying JSA. Won't work without any vision. He has aparajit batt acharya and he is happy! Hardly makes a difference what hemant has to say..people know enough about that firm and how it functions
