Samvād Partners has promoted senior associates Nivedita  Nivargi and Neela Badami to its partnership in Bangalore, increasing the size of the firm to seven partners.

Nivargi had joined Samvād, or Narasappa Doraswamy & Raja (NDR) as it was then known, in 2006, and specialises in corporate, M&A, venture capital, private equity and commercial work.

She graduated from ILS Pune in 2004 and started her career at Ashira Law in Bangalore.

Badami joined NDR in 2009 and specialises in M&A, venture capital and private equity transactions, as well as banking and finance, technology, media and telecommunications, contracts and public international law.

After graduating from Nalsar Hyderabad in 2005, she clerked at the International Criminal Court, joined Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai between 2006 and 2007, followed by two years as a legal research assistant at University of Michigan, where she obtained an LLM.

The firm‘s founder partner Siddharth Raja commented in an email: “This year has been one of consolidation and steady growth for us. The elevation of two of our Senior Associates to the partnership marks a significant milestone for our Firm, in line with our growth.

“We will continue to focus across all our offices on our core practice areas, including M&A, PE/VC investment and banking and finance.”

It is understood that Samvād is a full equity partnership, though younger partners have small stakes. When asked, Raja explained: “Either you are a partner or you are not; that's the law I believe. We are a true partnership in accordance with law.”

Nivargi commented via email: “From being the first associate to being one of the first partners to be promoted from within the Firm’s associates, my journey in the Firm has been truly exciting. I am deeply humbled and grateful for this recognition and hope to continue contributing to the Firm’s growth in this new role.

“Life will definitely change post partnership due to the added responsibilities attached to the role. The excellent support system within the firm will definitely help me ease into this new role.”

Badami added: “Samvad and the people at the firm have been unique in several ways, an important one being the fact that the firm has always been a warm and nurturing workplace, with great encouragement and support provided for the pursuit of one's aims and goals. As Nivedita says, its both exciting and humbling to be given the opportunity to become a partner at the Firm, and I am looking forward to contributing and being a part of the firm's growth as we start this new professional phase at Samvad.”
