JSA promotes 4 to salaried partner for lowest (non-equity) leverage amongst Big Six

J Sagar Associates (JSA) has promoted senior associates Mary Julie John in Bangalore corporate, commercial and real estate; Arpita Garg in Gurgaon’s banking, finance and corporate commercial; Vishal Anand in Delhi’s regulatory and corporate commercial; and Kannan Rahul in Mumbai’s banking and finance team to retained partner level, JSA Mumbai partner Berjis Desai told Bar & Bench.

The promotion would increase JSA’s partnership to 82, including 33 equity partners.

Providing the number of fee-earners has not changed dramatically since Legally India’s analysis in Mint of top law firms’ gearing ratios earlier this month, this would give JSA a leverage of only 2.6 fee-earners per partner - the lowest amongst the biggest firms - though the leverage of equity partners to fee-earners remains at 8.

JSA doesn't have the designation of Principal Associate. They have retained partners which is the same as associate partners.

Congratulations Vishal! Very well done.

HSAs and Trilegals loss is JSAs gain. Lesson for arrogant firms such as HSA and Trilegal, learn to respect your associates.

Kannan's departure was a big loss for ICICI legal and if JSA hadn't promoted him, he surely would have been snapped up by SAM, CAM or one of the more prominent firms.

The promotions should do good to the JSA Banking Practice.
