Kochhar & Co partner Harry Chawla, who was a senior equity partner at Amarchand Mangaldas in Delhi before resigning in December 2012 and joining Kochhar & Co in early 2013 as its Mumbai managing partner, is set to join the new firm expected to be launched by Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai managing partner Cyril Shroff in Delhi, according to two sources.
The new firm will compete with Amarchand Delhi managing partner Shardul Shroff, who is also due to launch a new firm in the coming weeks by expanding into Delhi.
Chawla is a senior corporate partner at Kochhar and Mumbai-region managing partner, though he has continued being based primarily in Delhi.
Chawla had joined Amarchand Delhi in 2008 after having started up his own firm, Chawla & Co, out of Luthra & Luthra in 2000.
He was on Amarchand’s national management committee before he resigned in 2012.
Chawla and Cyril Shroff declined to comment.
We have reached out to Kochhar & Co managing partner Rohit Kochhar for comment.

BTW all CAM hires seem from 3rd tier firms and SAM from top tier. Interesting would have thought it would happen the other way around.
