Amarchand & Mangaldas' former Kolkata office head is set to start up his own law firm, three months after his resignation from Amarchand.

Krishnava Dutt is understood to be in the process of setting up a law firm, which is due to deal with corporate, M&A and projects work.

The fledgling firm is understood to have hired premises in Kolkata although the formal launch is still several months off.

Dutt declined to comment.

He resigned as Amarchand's Kolkata head in June to pursue interests outside of the law and to help with his brother's non-law related business.

He had been an Amarchand partner for around three years, having been with the firm for almost seven years.

Amarchand has since relocated Delhi corporate partner Kalpataru Tripathy to lead the Kolkata office.

Amarchand declined to comment.

One Kolkata partner said: "There is space for more lawyers and he could find a small gap in the market with his past experience."
