Wadia Ghandy Bangalore partner Ankit Majmudar is set to leave the firm early next year.
Update: According to several sources he will join Platinum Partners in Bangalore. Ashish Ahuja commented: “Wadia Ghandy does respect his decision and has accepted it and wishes him well.”
Update 2: Platinum Mumbai partner Nihar Mody confirmed that Majmudar would launch Platinum’s Bangalore office, which will be the firm’s third office.
Update 3: Ahuja said that Majmudar’s entire team would also move. “We are at present shutting down the [Bangalore] office and will restart at an appropriate time.”
Majmudar declined to comment when contacted.
Majmudar, who joined the firm directly after graduating from NLSIU Bangalore in 2000, became partner there in 2004.
In 2011, he was one of three lawyers to manage the firm’s new Singapore office, having been granted a licence to practice Indian law there and travelling there regularly.
Legally India reported last week that the Singapore office has now been closed, after the commercials did not quite work out.
Wadia Ghandy also recently converted to an eat-what-you-kill style partnership after rejigging its internal management structure.

Didn't you hear? Wadia is on a 'eat what you kill' mode. :D
Will be good to see how Wadia continues to brave the ongoing storm - bombay weak, singapore down, bangalore down. will chennai and delhi office follow suit? Kian, any idea?
Ankit no doubt was the living face of Wadia - 'hugest' loss that could have ever affected wadia.
But, Kian, it's also interesting to see that he made Partner at 4 years! So that's faster than Umakanth or Essaji, right?
LI should do a story on fastest equity partners in Indian law firms. Akash at KCO also made under 7 years. What about Shishir at Luthura?
Ankit was never an equity partner in WG - not even today at the time of his leaving.
Good luck Ankit!
1. Let Zia Mody AZB buy out WG
2. Let Cyril Shroff AMSS buy out WG
3. Let RabindraJhunjhunwala Khaitan buy out WG
4. Part ways with Dhaval Mehta live happily ever after
5. Increase pay for associates articed clerks and regain their faith towards the firm striving them to work harder
Hey WG-AZB people! This is aimed at you! Let's chat soon and see how we can make this happen.
All the best to Ankit..
Conclusion: Currently, investments in time and effort with respect to the Company highly unrecommended. Sadly. I really liked the principles that the Company was based on not more than just half a decade ago, you really didn't have to go and prove me wrong.
As for Ankit: All the very best and hopefully this opportunity gives you the peace to grow your practice by leaps and bounds and further gives you the opportunities that you very well deserve.
Three tentative solutions to get out of this would be:
1) Introduce a bit of Tier-I touch like either increased pay-scale and/or all Saturdays off.
2) Keep a more people friendly and respectable person as Recruitment Partner (like AA, not BD).
3) Re-concentrate on earlier core practice areas like conveyancing and litigation, where Tier-I firms do not compete.
