Amarchand Mangaldas partner Abhimanyu Bhattacharya, who resigned in July, has now joined Khaitan & Co as expected and as first reported by Legally India at the time.
Although Amarchand Mumbai partner Vandana Shroff said in July that Bhattacharya would be required to serve six months of garden leave, it is understood that the period has been reduced to around four months by mutual agreement between the firms.
According to a Khaitan press release, Bhattacharya’s joining in Mumbai as a partner would boost the firm’s capital markets practice.
He was promoted to Amarchand’s partnership in 2013, one year before his resignation. He had joined Amarchand in 2006 after an LLM from NUS Singapore and an LLB from NUJS Kolkata in 2005.
In the press release, Khaitan partner Rabindra Jhunjhunwala commented: “On behalf of the firm, I am delighted to welcome Abhimanyu to the team. Abhimanyu is a highly regarded Capital markets lawyer whose arrival will help us strengthen our Capital markets practice. The work Abhimanyu undertakes for the firm will not only help maintain the firm's momentum, but build on its rapidly increasing reputation.

Could be done either way - in this case, since we originally reported his move as being to Khaitan, it's kind of part of the same story and the same move. Plus you could argue that garden leave is a continuing contractual tie to Amarchand. On the other hand, I guess every move that we report after it has already happened should say former partner.
Technically I see your point, but I don't think it causes any confusion so we've perhaps been a bit fast and loose about it... :)
i was just trying to figure out whether it was drafted as factually correct on the implications of garden leave for an outgoing partner or as "bit fast and loose".
:)
Honestly though, I don't discriminate and am partial to partial, full and non-existent beardage.
You should infact cover up a story on some of the fashionista and appearance conscious lawyers. Digressing again from here it is interesting to see how poaching works in Indian law firms and what ate the anti poaching methods adopted by the law firms.
But the devdas like beard doesnt go down well. Period.
Get some beard tips from Mr. Lall...no one flaunts it better than him.
