Standard Chartered deputy head of legal Sapan Gupta has moved to Bajaj Finance as its first chief legal officer.
At Bajaj Finance he will be responsible for setting up the formal legal function, reporting directly to the non-banking financial company’s (NBFC) CEO.
His work will include finance and corporate work, as well as overseeing legal disputes.
Gupta confirmed his new role when contacted.
At Standard Chartered he was most recently legal head of the transactional banking, corporate finance and capital markets division in Mumbai, where he had been for six years.
Before joining Standard Chartered in 2008, he was at Sidley Austin in New York for two years after roughly two years each in the legal departments of HSBC India and ICICI Bank, and a year at Tata Housing and Development.
He graduated from Delhi University in 2000 and completed a Masters in Laws at Harvard Law School in 2006.

At least I thought that was the case and the terms are pretty interchangeable - maybe someone can shed some light on whether GC has some special meaning apart from the other two?
