Citi India bulks up legal with int'l hires from Clifford Chance, GE Capital

Citi India has hired former GE Capital India general counsel (GC) Sandip Beri as Citi India head legal and Clifford Chance senior associate Munish Nagpal as head legal of Citigroup Global Markets India.

Beri joined Citi from GE Capital where he was general counsel India, having previously worked at the GE headquarters in Connecticut.

He previously also worked with Sidley Austin Chicago’s office and a Delhi firm, according to a Citi press statement.

Nagpal, meanwhile, joins as senior vice president in the legal department of Citigroup Global Markets India.

Between January 2008 and March 2010 he was a senior associate in the capital markets team at Clifford Chance’s Singapore office.

He has previously also worked as an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Singapore for less than a year, Fried Frank in New York and Amarchand Mangaldas. He is qualified in India, New York and England & Wales.

Citi South Asia general counsel Mohit Shukla is understood to be in the process of transitioning to another role within the company.
