NLS firm MD&T Partners merges with younger firm Equitas Legal to up lit capacity

A merger for more court work
A merger for more court work

Bangalore law firm MD&T Partners merged with litigation firm Equitas Legal on 1 October, to form a six-partner, 17 lawyer firm in the city.

MD&T was co-founded in 2005 by NLSIU Bangalore 1994 alumnus Mahesh Devaiah and NLS 1999 alumnus PM Thimmaiah, the only two partners in the firm other than NLS 1999 alumnus Sandhya PV who joined the firm in 2013 and was elevated to partnership in April 2016.

While the co-founding partners focus on general corporate and transaction advisory services, Sandhya PV is also a litigator.

Equitas was co-founded in 2011 by KS Devaraj, Bhargavi Dev K, and IS Devaiah and had two other lawyers as part of the firm. Equitas has experience in real estate, dispute resolution and employment laws, an MD&T spokesperson explained in an email, adding that the merger promised to bring with it enhanced litigation capacity and experienced partners with specialised skill sets.

The merged firm will operate out of two offices: the existing office of MD&T will do corporate work and a new office close to the corporate team’s office will be the base for the litigation team.

But the balance sheets of the two firms will be integrated into a single one, an MD&T spokesperson said.
