Exclusive: Nalsar Hyderabad’s student council has secured funds to upgrade sporting facilities in preparation for the college’s debut inter-college sports fest by next year to join the ranks of NLSIU Bangalore, NUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur, NLIU Bhopal, RMLNLU Lucknow and GLC Mumbai that all have inter-college sports fests.

Nalsar vice chancellor (VC) Veer Singh has agreed to release funds to the student bar council (SBC) to undertake preparations for the fest.

Nalsar SBC president Abhishake Singh confirmed: “We are planning for a sports fest, an inter-college sports fest, next year. We got equipment for the gym upgraded, the basketball courts got upped, the tennis courts got upped, and we have a nice new pool table.”

Singh told Legally India that the purchase committee of the college, which is comprised of the VC, the registrar, three professors, a project engineer and a supervising engineer, allocated funds for all their requirements for sports equipment, although the exact size of the fund was not disclosed to the SBC.

He said that the students had not yet decided on whether the festival would be held in 2012 or 2013.

Law colleges’ established annual sports fests include Spiritus held by NLSIU, Invicta at NUJS, Yuvardha at NLU Jodhpur, Spoculit at RMLNLU and Showdown at GLC Mumbai and the bi-annual Virudhaka at NLIU Bhopal.

Nalsar has organized an annual inter-college literary and cultural fest called The Summons for the last three years. Last year’s edition saw 20 colleges participating in it. Apart from quizzes, Antakshari, parliamentary debate and dance competitions, The Summons last year hosted sports events as well, according to Lexcetera.
