Luthra hires British QC as intern for 3.5 hours in charity auction: ‘Very special firm’

Luthra & Luthra has outbid Singaporean firms in a charity auction at a legal event in Singapore to secure the mock internship of English queen's counsel (QC) and Essex Court Chambers tenant Toby Landau, according to Bar & Bench.

Landau told Bar & Bench:

I don’t often put myself up for sale, but in a weak moment I was persuaded to take part in a legal aid charity auction in Singapore. My expectation was that I would be “purchased” by a Singapore law firm as a trainee for a day.

But Mr. Luthra unexpectedly started some aggressive bidding, and didn’t give up till the last minute. So I was purchased for Delhi instead of Singapore!”

Landau, who spent from 1:30pm to 5pm at Luthra's offices following the auction, was full of praise for the firm in the exclusive interview, noting that Luthra was “a very special firm, because I think it has got a particular atmosphere which is engendered by the boss. He exudes a great deal of warmth, and there is lot of collegiality”.

Besides the Luthra internship, Landau also talked of his experience in co-drafting the UK Arbitration Act, working part-time in Lahore, and working with Harish Salve on the Vodafone arbitration with the Indian government (a “great honour").ndian government (a “great honour").
