Aarushi Talwar case: CBI court convicts parents of murder and evidence destruction

A CBI court today convicted dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar for the year 2008 murder of their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi Talwar and domestic help Hemraj Banjade, reported the Hindustan Times.

The couple will be sentenced tomorrow for murder (section 302 IPC), destruction of evidence (s 201) and common intent (s 34), with the husband also having been charged with misleading investigators (s 203).

Days after Aarushi’s 2008 murder, Rajesh Talwar was arrested but he was released on bail two months later after the case was handed over to the CBI. Nupur Talwar was arrested in April 2012 for ignoring orders to appear in court, and was released on bail in September 2012, according to NDTV’s timeline of the case and the WSJ’s summary of events.
