Khaitan beats hattrickers ELP at its own Mumbai Masters Cup cricket tournament to pick up trophy • CAM, SAM make semis

Khaitan & Co bested Economic Laws Practice (ELP) and won the ELP Masters Cup Cricket Tournament on 7 January after three days of competition with 15 other Indian law firms.

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas competed until the semi-finals of the 10th edition of the tournament, which was held at the Police Grounds, New Marine Lines, Mumbai.

The semi-final matches were between ELP and SAM on the one hand, and Khaitan and CAM on the other.

Talwar Thakore & Associates, Desai Diwanji, Kanga & Co, DSK Legal, Wadia Ghandy, Hariani & Co, ALMT Legal, Trilegal, Veritas Legal, AZB & Partners, IC Legal and Nishith Desai Associates were the other firms that participated this time.

“The match between the ELP and Khaitan kept the spectators guessing through the event. The power packed performance by the two teams left the audience wanting for more,” according to the press release.

ELP has won this tournament three times in the last 10 years - which is the most times any one firm has bagged this cup.

ELP managing partner Suhail Naithani commented: “I am delighted to see the continuing legacy of ELPs Master Cup tournament. The tournament is a wonderful networking ground for the peers in the industry and this in turn helps build camaraderie within the legal fraternity.”

KCO was fantastic! Great stuff all around - particularly Ashraya - great batting! Kian, the current picture says ELP, but the guys are from Khaitan?

New entrants like Vickekananda Mishra....what a player! what a player! And what a smug smile (in the picture)! Is it true that he was brought from Delhi only for the games?

There was music but no DJ. Think you went to the wedding next door to Police Gym- nowadays it is indeed difficult to differentiate between cricket and weddings!

DJ was CAM s captain. Guess you are on of the many who did not get to bat or bowl and came to tournament only to bitch.

Also I hear it was not that closely contested a final. Sutron ke anusaar, KCo did not lose a wicket and finished the game in nearly 4 out of the allotted 6 overs.

ELPs press release is weird...Instead of following previous year reporting, being neutral and providing details / scores, all they have done is emphasise on “ELP reaching the finals” and “Hattrickers” etc...I heard that it was not a close final by any standards...KCO trashed all teams easily and were by far the best team...Amit batted beautifully through the cup though...ELP missed Rohan...

Khaitan & Co Cricket Team won the ELP Annual Cricket Tournament* last weekend.

* An annual affair, this tourney is played in a unique 7 a side format. Last weekend saw 16 law firms in Mumbai participate in the tenth edition.

In what has traditionally been a batsman dominated tournament - our bowlers, as also our batsmen dominated in the tournament. Such was the dominance of our team that they lost only a single wicket in the entire tourney (5 matches to lift the cup) and chased down every total with ample overs to spare!

We won the toss in the finals and put ELP to bat – our bowlers weaved their magic and restricted ELP to only 51/5 in the allotted 6 overs. Our batsmen, led by Ashraya Rao, went after the ELP bowling right from the first ball and got the winning runs in only the 4th over!

Shivanshu Thaplyal won 2 Man of the Match awards while Ashraya Rao won 3, as also the Man of the Series award! Rabindra Jhunjhunwala had an incredible 16 dismissals to his name as our wicketkeeper in the tournament!

Those KCO bowlers could have killed someone with their bouncers.a bit too fast for lawyer matches.
