Besides getting a breather for a few days across offices, Diwali is a special time for lawyers. And sometimes there are even gifts.
We have been told that associates and support staff at Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan were gifted bedsheets to celebrate this year.
As in, proper bedsheets, by Raymond, which we have to admit is rather useful.
At Trilegal Mumbai, meanwhile, gifts ranged from stuff by Forest Essentials and chocolates, depending on your office location.
However, we are told that there were no Diwali presents for lawyers at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas this year, at least in Delhi.
And, many years ago, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas apparently had a tradition of gifting lawyers Rs 101 on Diwali.
We also asked one long-in-the-tooth partner about whether there was any law firm Diwali gifting old days. “Don’t think that I ever got any,” he said, adding: “Not surprising: every time someone tried to roll one of those I’d ask for a raise instead.”
And that, kids, is why some law firm lawyers become partners, and others stay associates.
But seriously folks, happy festive season all! And do share your most (and least) favourite law firm gifts in the comments below.

You must be from CAM!
Their Bombay office is at least better I heard.
As associates also had secretaries, we were supposed to give them Christmas presents too. Usually a $100 gift cheque would be considered nice and polite.
