Turf T20 Cup for Law firms
Turf T20 Cup for Law firms
The TURF Twenty20 tournament between law firms for the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) Cup has kick-started this year’s cricket frenzy as 16 teams from four pools prepare themselves to battle it out on the fields.

Last year’s champion Titus & Co and AZB & Partners in pool A and Luthra & Luthra and Dua Associates in Pool D emerged victorious in the first set of weekend matches.

Two inaugural matches were played on 30 October followed by another two the next day between teams in Pool A and D as a part of the qualifying round for the quarter-final, semi-finals and final rounds which will be played over the next two months.

Pool A for Titus, AZB

In the first match of 30 October, Titus defeated Trilegal by 66 runs after scoring a robust 142 for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Trilegal, which won the toss, in turn chased only 76 runs total for the loss of 9 wickets in 17 overs.

Titus player Raj Kamal who took three wickets was declared the man of the match.

In the second match in Pool A, AZB & Partners triumphed over S&R Associates. After winning the toss and electing to field first AZB managed to score 107 runs in just 16.3 overs in response to S&R’s total of 106.

AZB bowler Rachit Bahl was accorded the man of the match title.

Pool D for Luthra, Dua

The intra-Pool D matches that were played on 31 October had Luthra & Luthra facing off rivals DSK Legal while Dua Associates took on K&S Partners.

Despite winning the toss and electing to bat first DSK Legal was all out in 18.1 overs with 104 runs in the kitty, which Luthra swiftly chased under 10 overs after losing only a single wicket.

Luthra all-rounder Manish Gupta picked up man of the match for granting a bonus point victory for his team.

Dua Associate played against K&S Partners in the second Pool D match and won after successfully chasing a total of over 141 bench-marked total runs made by K&S.

Angad Verma of Dua Associates stood tall as the man of the match.

Last year Titus & Co won the tournament against Saikrishna after scoring 205 runs.

@Mediator: I think he is the oldest player in the tournament and leading Titus and Company as a captain. I saw him playing twice and he plays with full commitment, passion and enthusiasm.

Heard that last year Titus played Supreme Court and Jindal players and they would not have won without them. Same this year?

Guess not... I don't think Titus played players from SC or Jindal. Those were allegations they never fructified and were baseless.

Titus definitely played people from Supreme Court as the same people we seen turning out for Supreme Court in other matches. Some of their players are in KTS Tulsi's chamber. Tulsi attends some of their matches and cheers them on as if it was their team.

Begs the questions as to why this tournament happens. Is it for law firms to play each other cordially and socially or is it to play in an uncouth fashion, swearing on the ground and winning all all costs by getting outsiders in? Just wondering like.

@ Confused Soul: U still dont make sense... Keep quiet.
@ #15: I beg to differ, Mr. Tulsi and Mr. titus are good friend and are often seen together at social gatherings be it a talk show, a cricket match, Bar council or SC elections etc etc... So, its quiet obvious that Mr. Tulsi came in and cheered for Titus and Co. at the finals. If it wuld have been Mr. Tulsi's team playing the finale Mr. Titus would have been their to cheer Mr. Tulsi's team. Its not a breaking news.

So it happens for "law firms to play each other cordially and socially" and not for your outrageous imagination.

In the last SILF tournament, Kocchar & Co. filed a written complaint against T&Co. for playing with outside players with some evidence....however, T&Co. filed a response with some evidence (appointment letters signed by its owner) and the matter was closed there.....I am not saying that whatever T&Co. responded and produced as evidence, is correct or completely incorrect; the bottom line is that it will play with the same team and nothing can be done now officially....so lets play and enjoy cricket...now there are 4-5 very good teams which can beat each other, including T&Co and win the tournament....the last SILF tournament is a clear manifestation of that...

I completely agree "move forward". But I doubt T&Co. can been beaten easily. They are the only team that has not lost its players and are playing with more or less the same team they played last season and the season before. Bhasin & Co it seems is not participating, Luthra has lost few top players, Kochhar though good, are not among the top team, Sai Krishna is good but I have heard they have lost few of their players as well. Trilegal is a dark horse and it is one of the team that can eliminate any opposition on its day. Its going to be fun this year, it is sad we are not playing.

Guys remember, under the Advocates Act, we are not supposed to be anyone's employee, its prohibited, we are all consultants or retainers, to whoever we work for..... so if a player or players suck your happiness on the field, don't get frustrated with life, rather appreciate..... that a LAWYER who does petty good litigation AS ALLEGED alongwith titus, tulsi & supreme court - comes on the filed n plays some good cricket..!! Peace :-)

Oh was so waiting fr this update Legally India :-)))!!!

Lets play the real game...nt the blame game :-))......No one complained when Titus got off to a bad start last year at Turf T20 when beaten by Luthra n Bhasin on the trot!!!!!However...the moment they started beating the oppositions n were crowned the champions.....some ugly heads rose frm hell!!!Well, rest assured...Titus assured they stay thr :-))).....Its a fresh tournament....n all the good teams have gt a kick start....lets see hw the tourney unfolds.

#29: Everybody appreciates good cricket. But if such player or players drop their level to some third grade sledging and hoogalism, they are even worth of being alleged as LAWYERS as they have no ethics to stand by....and if one goes by your logic, then let the alleged litigator to come out in open and admit that he works for Tulsi....or prove that titus has ever given him any matter independently....and by the way, in the evidence submitted to SILF last time, it was never disclosed that he works for Tulsi as well.....come to reality my friend...[...] ....thanks to other teams that they are not lowering their level and objecting to this [...].....but you never know whose happiness gets sucked on the field....mind it in peace :-)

it seems that legally India is the forum for employees lawyers( what ever name one can call consultant , associates or anything else). fact remain same...master and employees relationship...and each of you batting for you employers( here firms) and still call yourself lawyer..I appreciate the confidence you people have ........(mind it I am not saying about all but most of you just /mere a employees and have no right to be called as lawyer....if true spirit of The Advocate Act.., BCI rules and regulations ... and Supreme Court rulings applied..as most of you are full time employees..mind it employees..and don't get frustrated..if you have guts ..come in profession independently...don't fight on these trivial issues ....being a professional many important issue country facing..give some thought on it too....( I have no intention to hurt anyone ..sorry if you get hurt by truth )

now this discussion is goin completly off-the-track....pls come back on the basis issues of playing with outside players, sledging, sissy babies, happiness getting sucked up on the field, alleged litigator, strong teams, weak teams, SILF got bought by turf twenty-20, what will happen to gursharan's tournament, guy in blue, similarities between SILF tournament and Golmaal 3,team rivalaries, poaching of players by lawfirms, recruitment in sports quota, etc.

Anonymous guest 13 Nov 2010, 02:16

#41 good question. There is a rule that only lawyers and staff from the firms can play the tournament and the managing partners have to certify this.
Anonymous guest 14 Nov 2010, 02:18
+0 -0
Before the start of this tournament, Mr. Bhasin sent an e-mail to all participating teams to follow Titus and give the names of players certified by their respective managing partner and to raise objection if any..none of you came forward and raised objections concerning raj kamal.then why now cowards, raising these issues. You were given chance. Now focus on game.
