Universal Legal advised Carlyle-backed Newgen KnowledgeWorks on acquiring a majority stake in Pune-based digital learning and software company Exult Infosolutions which was advised by LegaLogic Consulting.
Universal partner Sameena Chatrapathy and associates Shreya Deora and Ashtawadh Balan acted for Newgen.
LegaLogic principal legal advisor Anand Chapekar and senior legal advisor Soumitra Dole acted for Exult.
This deal will help the Chennai-based publishing and technical service provider Newgen enter the e-learning and mobility space, reported the Economic Times.

Of course, very few people bother with these licensing "formalities," but one wonders why a client would hire a lawyer who doesn't comply with such formalities? I've no knowledge or grudge against any of these folks - it's simply an interesting issue. Of course, clients can benefit from multi-disciplinary teams, and the generally narrow academic background of Indian lawyers limits their interdisciplinary resources. That's why the big US "accounting" firms such as PWC are the biggest provider of corporate legal services in India. But as lawyers, we face regulatory hurdles which the CAs seem least bothered about.
