You earn less, work more on useless stuff, barely have time to research what you like, teach absolute morons, tackle with administration delays, sometimes are not paid for months, politics will keep you down. In the end, every job suks but atleast the high pay compensates for that. As someone who always wanted to get into academia and got in, I suggest not to get in.

Even post increase in salary LKS stands nowhere close to any tier 1 firm.

For instance the remuneration offered to A0 at LKS is 14 LPA + Bonus (at max 1/1.5 lakh) which is nowhere close to SAM (20 lakhs), Khaitan (22.5 lakhs), Trilegal (19.5 lakhs).

Moreover the salary growth trajectory at LKS is much slower than any other firm (leave tier 1 firms).

Yaar ideology and education have no relationship with each other. If you want to know whether it will provide a good education, check who on the website has experience with education and mentoring. Ask yourself how much time and energy someone with a lucrative practice will put into students who can't take their fees back, as opposed to clients who pay per hour. Then do the math with whatever ideology you want. 2+2 will still be 4. Left liberal or not, career professors have different skills and priorities than career lawyers. Your friend can go apprentice with lawyers to learn from them.

I'm an intern at NCDRC currently and need advice as to how can I make the most out of it. Currently I'm usually just sitting in the back of the courtrooms and observing how the advocates argue and how the judges respond. I'd appreciate new, creative perspectives to look at courtroom dynamics, and any other thing I can do while interning. I've tried talking to other interns, but they've just formed their groups with the same-year mates and don't really look encouraged enough to interact with others.

Same principle is followed in CLAT for decades. If an SC/ST/OBC scores enough to make it to the merit list, he or she is shifted to the merit list and removed from the reserved list. The reserved list then admits another SC/ST/OBC candidate. So basically an extra SC/ST/OBC candidate makes it and the number of people in the general category decreases by 1.

Rajaram aka River Law offers permanent work from home however a colleague of mine who used to work there earlier had mentioned that while its a small firm of approx 10 people as you said the attrition rate is at least 50% per year including junior levels. Pay is average and variable bonus component is high. Atmosphere from what I hear is no different than most toxic T1s and a lot of politics, haras sment and micromanagement involved. A lot of partners have left as well. Better to stick to T1 and get paid well. They mainly do VC not much M&A from what I know. Rebranding doesn't fix the internal issues that people have faced/ facing, nor is it starting over.

Hi - can we use this thread to highlight and discuss the air pollution issue. Authorities are neither taking any active steps to curb it nor are they acknowledging the issue. Delhi NCR pollution gets move coverage (not that has improved anything), but the pollution in Mumbai and so many other cities in India is as bad. What can be done by individuals at the personal level and how we can create buzz for authorities atleast start working on the issues even if it means doing the bare minimum. Right now anything is better than nothing.

At PQE 12 very unlikely a Chamber takes you on, you may have some luck with the Bombay bar at SC since they still have the second brief model and require senior people.

For Firms, you’ll have to be taken on as a Counsel so it’s all reference based, try reaching out to partners you’ve worked with during your in-house tenure, no point cold mailing at this experience.

hi so i had my callback presentation at trilegal in dec, it went well - got good feedback from my mentor in gen, was grilled a bit, it was very conversational and entire team was engaging. the partner had to leave mid way so im unsure how he felt about it. can anyone tell me what to make of all this? im bo2026 and really keen on converting this :(

The work is not worth it. You think you'll only teach ? Nope. There's research, conference, seminars, meetings publications etc. but worst is admin jobs. The worst of the worst. They'll basically want you to be a slave to them. I joined academia as a starry eyed person. Top of my class in both llb and LLM. Gold medalist. State topper. Phd immediately from abroad. Came back. Joined a tier 1 NLU. Best of the best. Within 2 years regretted my decision. The politics, the backstabbing, the favouritism etc. Luckily my batchmate came to help. Left immediately, joined a AoR chamber and here I am. Much more free, much better pay and more respect. Minus the politics which doesn't concern my standing in court.

You're fine bro, I graduated from a tier 2 non NLU, don't have any contacts in the legal industry, and spent the first three years of college just goofing around doing extracurriculars like theater and debate, and still ended up at a tier 1 firm- pay at at least the tier 1 firms is the same regardless of what college you're from too.

I have a fair interest in insolvency law and recently came across this programme called post graduae insolvency program offered by IICA, NALSAR and NLUD, which makes you eligible to become an RP by bypassing the 10 year expireience requirement. I would like to seek guidance from those who have previously appeared for the SEBI Grade A examination and successfully cleared the first phase. I have a few questions regarding the examination:

What kind of questions are generally asked in the paper?

What level of preparation is typically required?

Are the questions mostly general in nature, or do they require in-depth knowledge of statutes and specific provisions?

Are the questions particularly difficult, or are they based on commonly used provisions of law?

Is it possible to clear the examination with limited preparation and a basic understanding of law?

I would really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share.

All you can do is conduct yourself professionally. It is something that a seasoned partner would have already dealt with countless times already, and hence would not be ordinarily be held against you.

Interned there recently, there securities team have 4 people led by manish, decent work that too from one of there associates or else other 2 will just give clerical work; apart from this the disputes team too gives work at times when you are free from securities and there is a very irritating and ill-mannered associate from disputes giving random clerical work like going to court to get appearance and shit.

overall would not recommend, but if you can manage some irritating associates and dodge shitty clerical work then its a good place to learn.

Stop immediately. You're killing your own work ethic. These habits are very easy to get in but extremely difficult to get rid of. While you do owe the firm a proper work product till you're around, without getting into it (and completely understanding your reasons for being unable to), I would strongly urge you to try and be as good as your work was in your first month, because if you dont, you may start losing the grip and hurt yourself in whatever is next for you.

If anything, the NLU in the capital of the country remains the only true NLU in the full sense of how NLUs were envisaged - small exclusive batch sizes with no local quotas to ensure quality graduate outcomes. And honestly, NLS has never bragged about QS considering they have always been ranked so far behind a cash grab college like JGLS. So, stop peddling this myth that NLS is a true NLU. It’s run like an ultra-private money minting university these days.
